Abstract:

Additive manufacturing (AM), commonly known as 3D printing, has emerged as a transformative technology in mechanical engineering, offering significant opportunities for sustainable design and production. This research explores the impact of additive manufacturing on sustainability by analyzing its potential to reduce material waste, optimize energy consumption, and enable innovative design approaches. Through a mixed-methods approach, including case studies of leading companies in the field and quantitative surveys of engineers and designers, the study highlights how AM contributes to sustainability initiatives in mechanical engineering. The findings indicate that organizations adopting additive manufacturing can achieve both economic and environmental benefits, promoting a more sustainable future in manufacturing practices.
